a re-hash for those whom didn't see this.....

Now it is always fun (in a perverse sense) to date one’s self. Now this is s.f. in the mid-60’s while living in san Francisco. Mid 1960’s or so….
Youth does make us adventurous , and putting our heads together, and conjuring up a trip to l.a.
So with a minimum of planning…..or what we considered planning off we went….
my dad lived in l.a. and we asked if we could stay over for a day, he was also a master chef so knew food wasn’t a problem…
(now this order may be out of sync but did happen) that evening, probably after a great meal from pops we headed out the hullabaloo (later to become the Aquarius theatre ironically some of the icon bands lived around there and jammed), on sunset near vine…(I also found later-out they had a sunrise jam from 1 to 6 am, t other locals jammed for free then & the doors, love, Alice cooper, iron butterfly and more)
Now this was on TV, probably produced by dick Clark…there were go-go dancers, might have been in cages, with those white go-go boots-and all the trappings..
The strawberry alarm clock played their claim to fame was “incense and peppermints”….hmmmmmm…that’s old school sorta just about the start of hippies and you hear the song once in a while on rock stations…
Anyhow, we felt like we were at American bandstand…deal…
And that wasn‘t us……not out of arrogance …just dorky or even beyond for us…the music was o.k. but I don‘t remember what we heard…the crowd was l.a. not the s.f. crowd we were used to…in those days….we called people from l.a. plastic…or plastic-fantastic…..oddly enough I was actually born in l.a. in temple hospital. And then 3 or 4 years later moved to l.a.
So after concerts at the Fillmore, the Avalon ballroom (family dog), free concert in golden gate park (speedway meadows?)
This was a completely different setting, different people some cool and friendly most stand-offish not the Haight-Ashbury “EVERYONE” IS YOUR BROTHER OR SISTER…
So we exited stage left….back to pop’s in the parlance of the day “crash” at my dad’s pad…being a seasoned master chef he was out the door at about 4 that morning ……
So, lack so sleep, nor snow no hail nor gale winds nor dark of night was gonna stop us for us making our way to Hollywood and west Hollywood, the actual sunset strip area….
Got going we went thru Hollywood and headed out to the “strip“……and as to be expected, we got sidetracked and ended up on Santa Monica blvd…..(don’t think it was Melrose )
So sight-seeing and lost we were headed to the sunset strip …at least in the right direction, by no means by design….so we passed this one place and we could hear someone playing music…I can remember looking inside and saw some band….(we learned later it was the troubadour) so we listened for a while and watched them thru the door…
A while later ….back in s.f. we heard the band on the radio….is was the buffalo Springfield…..probably hear several of their songs before the album was recorded…
Just one of those cool but eerie webs of life that hold all events everything is it’s own sync…..that had us walk that way…..
We walked a bit more and looked in a bar, empty, but it had a wall of beers available (years later I went there, not a beer person, but with some friends and marveled at the variety that was there had to be well over a hundred, if not 2)..
We meandered to the more well know sunset strip and I remember there was a big statue of bull winking and I think he was holding rocky……there was a jay ward-store there…..
We saw the whiskey a go-go (later named the whiskey) ay Clark and sunset…. There was gazarris…Pandora’s box…and other clubs…this was our first intro and later in time one of my hangouts when in l.a.
More stories to come…….p.s. in the last story I told you of the pants Bart and I got well here they are …this is a photo of a band from l.a. in the 60’s with our pants…

will add photo later...

with clouds abounding and several blizzard blasts...the night is still young and hard to see what the weather will hold....
too much chocolate and goodies left from the holidays......and mind over matter become more abstract as the day goes onward...
will venture into putting some toy collectibles on youtube, especially disney snowglobes as they are so detailed in presentation, from the characters to virturally all aspects.....colors are riveting.....if there is a snowblower it is hard to explain the irredescent glittler swirling and festoon within the snowglobe...any movement aspects -get lost in translation.....and music is music-you may recoginize the music-but to hear it is the magic.....disney characters are larger than life on a snowglobe and can bring forth memories long ago very forgotten...and you imagination can soar....because for that moment in time you remember who you saw the film with.......your friends at the time......what your room looked like.....the smell of the popcorn from the theatre....your feet on the carpet as you walked down the aisle to your seats...the anticipation as you traveled to the theatre.....sometime with friends goofing around....or brothers or sisters...
or as you entered the theatre you were first met with the smell of fresh popcorn - that certain aroma-and maybe, just maybe that was real butter in that pot in the popcorn machine you smelled too......
disney snowglobes come in various sizes but some snowglobes are just a little more unique-although that may run with your tastes.......
so as we await the weather to greet us in the morning...watch the birds at the feeder and the quail scurry about the pines and other trees bottoms......the little pond is still out there with water as we see the birds drink and bath themselves with the water...so i may not drain the pond.....may have lost the pumps but just replace them with stronger ones next summer.....
and maybe because the pond will be here in the start of summer (there's an earlier blog about the pond escapade)...there will be frogs....we may go looking for tadpoles....if none appear by april or may......
so i wish you a sublime slumber that will calm your soul and refresh your spirit...

it is a winnie the pooh blustery evening....cool and with a quiet promise of snow...you can hear the wind outside and at times from the chimney for the gas
fireplace-stove-i did the paul bunon ( a gas stove when we got this house)( let's cut up these log quarters and that's over with.....i find it interesting when you try to point out something to someone on very real-grounds-the reply is there is a debate over that-which reminds me of Zachsminds blog when people are watchiing snow out their window and say "i can't believe it" rather empirical i'd think... it seems if you come with honest facts....they are debatable??? like the strange logic of a pretzel nature or a mobius....he was shot dead....well are you sure the gun was loaded? it boggles the mind.....i don't mind a true debate...but just straight out avoidance of facts....sometimes you just have to take a walk...and realize you are just buying into the madness to a greater degree....if you don't...
the last of these tiny creampuffs were consumed by me...although we split the tower if them...some pictures on facebook john osalvo
as if that was all we ate..... but just food for thought....just makes ya wonder...
happy new year

it always funny when you are trying to find something is paperwork and after a while it becomest a moot point because you become snow-blind for the incessant flood of papers that you try to find that good ole needle in a haystack.....
but you need that paper...but then again...you are cross-eyes-blurry-eyed...the start of a headache of untold proportions...
so logic....whatever it is at the moment...sorta a flavor of the week...in terms of acceptance...
so i trudge onward...but tommorow ...a more lucid mind...
i find i will take a video of christmas in the house...just as a test run #2 for youtube...need to be a little more stationary...as the lites outside took a quick run - needing to finish in a minute i will attempt that and then continue on my quest to get so youtube stuff on toys and other cool things...at least to my thinking and hopefully to some of yours...
so until tommorow...i bid you adieu.........

not in pursuit of highly enlightening material-watching alien vs predator requiem in blu ray and i have to admit picture and sound is pretty amazing-since the last time i saw it on standard dvd...as far as 3-d-i think I'll wait for hologram deals-

i guess too that as a kid-sci-fi & horror were part of my reading comic books to a degree too...probably as with all an escape-i think seeing sci-fi and horror realized as opposed to just the reading is the hum-dinker i had thought it would be...blu ray seems to add that bit of surreal to the edge of it all...
so this could be a basis for my fascination with toy-repressed childhood and all...funny how fear can stop us from growing , in terms of life-yet i myself (and others looking at the industry) seem to love to be scared-thrilled-surprised and so on-part of me sees the touch of reality there and that seems both the attraction and the fear factor a convoluted rush of sorts....
campy films i can abide by...but if it's horror or sci-fi the story and production values gotta be excellent or i'll just shut it off...
so action figure toys and diorama's fascinate me....we do collect...
also cartoon character salt and pepper and cookie jars-unique frog stuff and some stuffed plushes..... and ironically some disney snowglobes too
i have to post a video soon so you can get an idea.......so back to avp and other things...
short today..but will not always be
merry Christmas...2 days to go...

and on day we had heard there was going to be a march, but the basis of the reason escapes me... marching down Haight street...
so we follow all those that got in the march down Haight and probally fueled by the infamous greasy fish n' chips..Bart and i somehow ended up in the front-not sure how....where the Golden Gate Park was blocked by the s.f.p.d. IN FULL RIOT GEAR...it was a stand-off ..some yelling and cops yelling to disperse by bulllhorn...this went on for a while then they threw and i quote Bart.."look there are some , smoke bombs..let's throw the back~!!!~"
Made sense at the moment....so we both went to go grab one to throw back......
not smoke...but tear gas....we were both gone...eyes and nose running and burning...someone's yelling don't rub your eyes...don't-will make it worse~!!!~ so like sheep, nice people led us away....all i remember is a nasty burning sinsation with every breath...so as we were led thru the crowd...we ending up somewhere where they rinsed our eyes untill we were somewhat back to normal...i thing we went on to some people we knew typical 3 story victorian walk up....we were kids...these people, a husband and wife and a guy were alot older...they used the expression "he's a head" alot, meaning cool....Bart and i thought it a dumb expression and wondered how he knew who was a "head" since we ourselves didn't consider him one. I think his wife was just there. Their room mate was this big biker guy, all leather, scary looking-(our first lesson-don't judge a book by it's cover) but very kind and friendly...and less apt to judge someone met to see if he met "head: criteria...needless to say there was a haze of smoke in the room......
not exactly complimenting our tear-gassed eyes.....we left later after it seemed like we couldn't follow whatever was being said and i think we had deluxe headaches......so ended the "Haight-Ashbury riots"........i will return with another escapade tommorow or where-ever my aimless mind wanders

walking down memory lane...

Sometimes...not as a rule...but i will hear a song..or see something....or talk to someone and my mind will wander into a netherland of days passed for the growing up teens in San Francisco.....
my best friend-road dog Bart is just about in every escapade...Bart and i went to the same Jr. High-Everett & High School-Galileo in the 1960's...actually kinda detested one another at first...and found a solace that we were loners and that became a common ground.....opposites in so many ways...
now the first time i went to Barts house, in Potrero Hill, behind general hospital...and there were stairs that climbed up to the top of the unknown second lombard street, an even more hairpin curved climb.....so we get to Bart's house and i am doubfounded, there were huge abstract art paintings and and antique (i learned later) coffee grinders.....his dad Mel was a book reviewer for the San Francisco Chronicle and had a goatee-his mom a clinical psychologist so i thought they were Communists, i had never been in that type of setting...at any house...real commie pinkos-by definition of those days
needless to say they were not Communists ...and they had me for dinner...coffee and some  of the greatest conversations...serious fresh ground coffee...and this too my feeble mind and taught me to start to thing.....and have a validity with my opinions........and they had salad after dinner, as Mel was from England i believe and it was a custom in Europe...
high school was in the mid-1960's-with Haight-Ashbury coming alive.....neeedless to say we ventured out to the "Haight"...
we liked to eat these greasy fish n chips from a shop on Haight street...just past "hippy hill" where i believe we saw one of the beatle in that famous poster shot with the heart-shaped glasses---was it George?...there was a huge sandbox with swings, monkey bars and other metal climbing deals...if we were broke...we would us strainers to go through the sand and get loose change...took hours be we would muster up enough to get a newpaper (like in England?) folded to hold the chips and fish...grease deluxe...but we were starving~!!!~
now i'll get to the Haight-Ashbury riots next to time...that's a whole other escapade...
until then......
smiles
and
merry christmas
