walking down memory lane...

Sometimes...not as a rule...but i will hear a song..or see something....or talk to someone and my mind will wander into a netherland of days passed for the growing up teens in San Francisco.....
my best friend-road dog Bart is just about in every escapade...Bart and i went to the same Jr. High-Everett & High School-Galileo in the 1960's...actually kinda detested one another at first...and found a solace that we were loners and that became a common ground.....opposites in so many ways...
now the first time i went to Barts house, in Potrero Hill, behind general hospital...and there were stairs that climbed up to the top of the unknown second lombard street, an even more hairpin curved climb.....so we get to Bart's house and i am doubfounded, there were huge abstract art paintings and and antique (i learned later) coffee grinders.....his dad Mel was a book reviewer for the San Francisco Chronicle and had a goatee-his mom a clinical psychologist so i thought they were Communists, i had never been in that type of setting...at any house...real commie pinkos-by definition of those days
needless to say they were not Communists ...and they had me for dinner...coffee and some  of the greatest conversations...serious fresh ground coffee...and this too my feeble mind and taught me to start to thing.....and have a validity with my opinions........and they had salad after dinner, as Mel was from England i believe and it was a custom in Europe...
high school was in the mid-1960's-with Haight-Ashbury coming alive.....neeedless to say we ventured out to the "Haight"...
we liked to eat these greasy fish n chips from a shop on Haight street...just past "hippy hill" where i believe we saw one of the beatle in that famous poster shot with the heart-shaped glasses---was it George?...there was a huge sandbox with swings, monkey bars and other metal climbing deals...if we were broke...we would us strainers to go through the sand and get loose change...took hours be we would muster up enough to get a newpaper (like in England?) folded to hold the chips and fish...grease deluxe...but we were starving~!!!~
now i'll get to the Haight-Ashbury riots next to time...that's a whole other escapade...
until then......
smiles
and
merry christmas
